Southampton are considering West Brom boss Carlos Corberan as a candidate for the new manager, along with former Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand and at least one other foreign manager.
Sky Sports News it was said that until now there was no contact with electricity Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl – who was Ralph Hassenhuttl’s assistant at St Mary’s two years ago – and was considered the frontrunner to get the job.
Former Roma coach Daniele de Rossi is also thought to be an interesting name, but Southampton currently have no plans to look for an Italian coach.
The Saints are still in the early stages of finding a replacement for Russell Martin, who he was fired on sunday after an emergency board meeting, after Home defeat against Tottenham 5-0.
That performance precipitated a decision Southampton’s board had been reluctant to make and, as such, the club did not actively work to find a successor.
However, they would like to have a new head coach in place for Sunday’s game against Fulham, live Sky Sports, if possible, although finding the right candidate is considered most important.
However, any deal for Corberan could be problematic, with West Brom believed to have a significant release clause built into his contract worth more than £2m, and the Spaniard would need to be convinced that it is a prudent career move to replace the team currently two points from of the Championship play-offs, for one who is nine points from safety at the bottom of the Premier League.
