When Oscar Valdez and Emanuel Navarrete go through the ropes, they both achieve the same thing – full action every time they box.
Now they have to settle scores in the rematch, live on Sky Sports’ main event or Sky Sports+ from 1.30 am on Sunday.
“There’s that personal pride in the game and I know that, and I think that adds a little more interest to the fight,” Navarrete said. Sky Sports.
“Pride carries a lot of weight, especially in a Mexico vs. Mexico fight. To lose to another Mexican would be more important than to someone else.
“Since this is the second time we’ve fought each other, we have more experience with each other and I think that will lead to more exchanges.”
Navarrete defeated Valdez by unanimous decision when they fought in 2023.
But now he says: “I want to knock him out… because I want the win to be clear and to show that I can definitely beat someone like Oscar Valdez.
“I will look for a knockout. However, he will know better how to neutralize my attacks because he knows how hard I hit and how I will attack.”
Valdez recorded a vital comeback victory over Liam Wilson and now has the chance to become a world champion again against top WBO champion Navarrete.
“We’ve been there with him, we know what he’s got, he’s a tough fighter,” Valdez said Sky Sports. “But nothing in life is impossible, especially in boxing, especially when you are a fighter like me, who has always dedicated his body and his mind to everything in that gym.
“We always had a chance and I don’t ever want to regret not trying. I didn’t try to get that gold, that dream I always wanted.”
The first fight with Navarrete was a brutal fight. Valdez expects the same again.
“You’re going up against another warrior,” Valdez said. “We will fight as if we hate each other.
“We’ll test each other and see who has the bigger heart. I really believe that’s going to (win) this fight – who wants it the most, who loves the sport the most.
“This is the fight of my life and I take it very seriously.”
Emanuel Navarrete vs. Oscar Valdez will be streamed live Sky Sports’ main event and Sky Sports+ from 1.30 am on Sunday
